Talent Assessment is a buzz in HR circles, but what is it all about? Why companies or HR is after it? Gone are the days when companies use to use a traditional method of hiring. Now they conduct talent assessment to match their hiring criteria.
Talent assessments are the pre-employment tests or screening test to identify good candidates for the jobs. They predict on-the-job performance and long term association of the candidates if hired. These are based on behavioral assessment and provide results on compatibility between candidate and job.
They form a part of initial screening tests to weed out irrelevant candidates and conduct an interview of candidates who are appropriate. Some of these are a part of applicant tracking systems used to track the applications. They include questions about personality, working style, skill sets, knowledge etc. and it is linked with the company culture. In fact, some tests involve job simulations and role playing scenarios based on job vacancy at hand.
Talent assessment works well if the companies have pre-defined job descriptions and ideal candidate profiles to benchmark the candidate profiles. The tests do not have a pass or fail marks; it all depends on the criteria adopted by the companies to select the candidates. The companies need to communicate and educate the candidates about the importance of tests and the qualifying parameters, to help them undertake tests in good spirit and with confidence.
